Public hearing on new hospital proposal Aug. 17

Notice that a public meeting for comments will be held to review Mineral Community Hospital's plan to file an application for Federal Assistance for a Biomass Heating/Cooling System and New Hospital Facility with the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Loan and/or Grant program.

Food for Frenchtown every fourth Tuesday

Food For Frenchtown!

Is it sometimes hard to get into Missoula? We’re now offering food access here in our community! Come pick up a grocery bag of non-perishable food every Fourth Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Frenchtown Fitness parking lot.

St. Patrick's Day potluck, dance in St. Regis March 13

The St. Regis Community Council invites you to a pot-luck supper and St. Patrick's Day Dance on March 13 in the Community Center, beginning at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by Eagles Nest Band after the meal, and folks are asked to bring a dish to share. SRCC will be offering beverages, and there is no charge for the event. For more information, or to volunteer to help, contact a board member or attend the regular Council meeting March 9 at 7 p.m.

Easter cantata March 22 at Strand Theater

Mineral County Community Choir will present an Easter Cantata at 7 p.m. Monday, March 22, in Superior's Strand Theater. The program is entitled "What a Morning" by Jay Althouse and Sally K. Albrecht, and will be directed by Ms Mary Johnston of the St. Regis School. Keyboard accompaniment is by Nancy Wilson. Choir members vary from grade schoolers to grandparents representing most of the local churches, and number about 50. There is no charge for the performance.

Community Briefs for November, 2009

The Mineral County Library in Superior will be holding a "Celebrating Home" Open House this Monday, Nov. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the library lobby. Nicole will be here with lots of lovely things to see and order, plus some for sale at the open house. Hope to see you all here for this fun event! Hosted by The Friends of the Library.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Coordinator for Mineral County will be holding office hours in the St. Regis Community Center office on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. RSVP recruits volunteers and matches them with non-profit groups and projects to help out locally. There are some benefits provided for volunteers. Contact Monica Ray at 822-7653 for an appointment, more information, or just drop in.

The search is on for Mrs. Superior 2010! The Mrs. Montana Pageant is seeking applicants for the title of Mrs. Superior. Once selected, the lucky lady will represent her community in the 2010 Mrs. Montana Pageant July 10 at the Petro Theater in Billings. Local titleholders will compete to win a prize package valued at over $8,000, including an all-expenses paid trip to the nationally televised Mrs. America Pageant. Applicants must be at least 18 years old (no age limit), married at the time of competition, and a Montana resident; no performing talent required. Mineral County Community Food Bank is open in Superior from 10:00 a.m. - noon and 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. every Friday. The Alberton Food Bank will be open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. every second and fourth Wednesday.

Community Briefs for October 14, 2009

Roman Zylawy will be announcing that he is a candidate for County Commissioner for the East End, and Marcia Verley Boris will be announcing that she is a candidate for County Attorney in the 2010 elections. The citizens of Alberton and Mineral County are invited to meet with Roman and Marcia on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Community Church in Alberton at 2:00 p.m. Cookies pastries and coffee will be provided. Please come and hear Roman and Marcia tell of their future plans.

The "Walk For Awareness” to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month will start at 10 a.m. at the Alberton Community Center, October 24th. A free luncheon will follow the walk along with silent auctions, a raffle, educational information, and local resource info. All proceeds will be donated to the Montana Breast and Cervical Health Program. The Alberton Food Bank will be open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. every second and fourth Wednesday.

Forestry mini-college at UM Nov. 7

MSU Extension Forestry is hosting the 2009 Forestry Mini-College on the campus of The University of Montana on Saturday, November 7, 2009. Forestry Mini-College is a one day educational event for family forest landowners and everyone interested in forestry, featuring a series of short classes on a variety of forestry topics and current issues.
