Town Pump, food bank celebrate 23 years of service with fundraising campaign

The Mineral Community Food Bank is conducting a fundraising campaign Jun.16 to Aug. 15, and Town Pump will match up to $1,000 in contributions. All funds raised stay in the community.

The matching is part of the second annual "Be a Friend in Deed, Helping Those in Need" fundraising campaign.

Mineral Community Food Bank was established in 1980 to serve the hungry in the community of Superior and Mineral County. The Food Bank is located at 100 River Road in Superior and is open Friday from 10am to 12pm and 1 pm to 3pm, an appointment may be made for times outside the regular hours. Mineral Community Food Bank has no paid staff and relies on the time and efforts of dedicated volunteers to accomplish their mission.

Rey: EPA may seek to allow watershed plans in place of TMDLs

The court decision halting the Lolo post-burn project was criticized by several U.S. officials and governors in town for the Western Governors’ Association forest health summit last week. U.S. Department of Agriculture undersecretary Mark Rey, who oversees the U.S. Forest Service, said in response to the decision the Environmental Protection Agency may seek to change its TMDL rules, while Gov. Judy Martz noted that the decision could also delay projects favored by environmentalists, such as the Milltown Dam removal.

Rustlers to tackle cleanup project

Upcoming this July 8, Superior’s 4-H Rustler’s club will adopt Cliff and Diamond Lakes for cleanup. There will be a drive up to Diamond Lake, and a portion of the club will hike up to Cliff Lake. The decision for this activity was finalized in the monthly organizational meeting on Monday, June 9. Due to the Club President’s absence, Vice President Tempe Reagan ran this meeting.

Hospital announces association with neurosurgeon

Mineral Community Hospital is pleased to announce its association with Dr. Richard Day, neurosurgeon.

Dr. Day will be seeing patients and performing selected surgeries at the hospital in Superior monthly, starting June 20, 2003.

Knox released on probation in last meth case sentencing

Paul Knox was released June 11 after receiving a five-year suspended sentence in the last of four cases stemming from a mobile meth lab bust in St. Regis last year. He had served 238 days in the Mineral County jail.
