Rehberg sends followup letter to Sebelius after Montana visit

Rep. Denny Rehberg on Wednesday sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius following her visit to Montana to discuss the health care legislation that was signed into law earlier this year. Polls at the time of passage indicated that Montanans strongly opposed the measure, and recent reports indicate that time has not improved the bill’s popularity. Rehberg has sponsored legislation to repeal the bill.

Tuesday burnout successful on Alder Creek fire

Missoula MT. 8/23 6:00 p.m. – Firefighters today completed a burnout on the north perimeter of the Alder Creek Fire to establish a secure line on that end of the fire. The operation was supported by heavy helicopter water drops prior to the burnout to prevent fire spread beyond the line.

According to the incident commander of the fire, the burnout ignition started slowly early in the day but as burning conditions improved, the operation achieved all of its objectives. Smoke from the burnout and burning of other pockets of fuel to the southeast of the fire was visible from Stevensville.

Hunter education class planned for Lolo

A Hunter Education class is planned for Lolo beginning Sept. 9 at 7p.m. Interested students must register on the first night of class at the Lolo Middle School cafeteria. A parent or legal guardian must accompany students under 18 to register.

Firefighters hold Alder Creek to 400 acres

August 23, 6:15 p.m. – Approximately 50 firefighters and three helicopters kept the Alder Creek Fire at 400 acres today as they constructed fireline to the north and west. Fire managers expect fireline construction on the north perimeter of the fire to be completed this evening.

More crews engage Alder Creek fire

Missoula MT. 8/23 12:00 p.m.– Four crews and three helicopters are now aiding in the suppression of the Alder Creek Fire about 12 miles southeast of Stevensville on the Lolo National Forest. Those resources are assisting about a dozen Missoula Smokejumpers who jumped the fire during the initial attack yesterday afternoon.

New website to assist hunters goes live

The Montana State Library and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced the launch of a new website designed to assist hunters find the basic information they need for a successful hunting season. The "Hunting Companion" can be found at http://msl.mt.gov/hunting.

The website was developed in part to assist Montana's librarians as they field requests from hunters in libraries across the state. The "Hunting Companion" is a streamlined access point for the basic information every hunter needs for a successful hunt.

First half of 2010 reveals little good news for Montana wood products industry

The first half of 2010 brought Montana’s wood products industry a mixture of employment and wage declines but some production increases, according to a University of Montana researcher.

Todd Morgan, director of forestry industry research at UM’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research, said the mixed signals contain scraps of good news, but the big picture is not improving.

Tester posts latest ethics review

Senator Jon Tester on Friday posted online a new ethics review of his office.

Tester, the first member of Congress to post his daily public schedule online, is also the only member to voluntarily request regular ethics reviews of himself and his staff.

Retired Montana District Court Judge Gordon Bennett of Helena conducted Tester’s latest ethics review for the current session of Congress, after carefully examining Tester’s office policies and records, Senate ethics rules and other requested documents.
