Performing Arts Council to offer concert August 11

Area’s most talented artists ready to please crowds

The Mineral County Performing Arts Council (MCPAC) is pleased to announce that it will be holding its first public performance Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. with a community concert at the Superior Baptist Church.

The concert will feature live music from three of the area’s most talented musicians: Jodi Marshall – the Northwest’s renowned jazz pianist and recipient of the Missoula Cultural Council Award for her contribution to the arts.

Laura Loge – A gifted soprano whose performances encompass a wide variety of opera roles as well as concert repertoire.

Scott Billadeau – Superior’s own accomplished pianist, conductor and composer who was nominated for a regional Emmy award for his work with PBS.

Admission is no cost to the community, although freewill offerings will be accepted.
MCPAC is a Public Benefit Corporation organized "not for profit" under Title 35, Chapter 2 M.C.A. to receive and administer funds exclusively for entertainment, educational, charitable and benevolent purposes without pecuniary gain or profit, incidental or otherwise, to its members.

The Mineral County Performing Arts Council was recently organized by a small group of Mineral County residents to promote cultural activities in the county. Shortly after the council was organized, the Strand Theater came on the real estate market and there was concern about it being torn down or converted to other purposes. The council wanted to preserve it as a theater so they made an offer with the idea that funds could be garnered to close the deal.

A vigorous fundraising campaign was initiated and potential benefactors contacted. These plans were in the early stages when the theater was taken off the market. The council feels some relief that the theater will remain in place and provide entertainment for the community residents. The modest funds secured during the fund raising will now be used to promote cultural activities and programs for all residents of the county.

The council invites any and all residents to join in to promote the arts. Your input is very important. If you have questions please contact Kay Yost at 822-3340.
