Evaro/Finley/O'Keefe residents sought for community council

Citizens are needed to fill five positions on the new Evaro-Finley-O’Keefe Community Council.

Missoula County commissioners will appoint the initial Council of five (5) members to staggered terms of one, two and three years, with the members chosen by election thereafter, and with the intention of having one member from each precinct on the Council. Applicants must reside in Precincts 39, 40, 41 or 42, and be registered to vote. Precinct maps are also available at the County Elections or Rural Initiatives offices.

Residents approved the community council in the November 3, 2009 general election.

The Evaro-Finley-O’Keefe Creek Area Community Council shall strive to promote the interests and concerns of its residents and citizens in the Evaro-Finley-O’Keefe Creek area of Missoula County. The Council acts as a liaison to the County Commissioners and brings information from citizens and residents of the area to the attention of the Commissioners. It may also provide additional information deemed useful, beneficial and helpful to the Commissioners in making decisions which affect the community.

Because the vast majority of this area intersects with the Flathead Indian Reservation, the Community Council may also interact with the Tribal Council, staff and other members of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation.

The Community Council can provide leadership and support to the community by assisting with issues related to orderly growth and development as well as resource protection in the area.

This Council is advisory only and has no tax or other governmental powers. It is also important to note that formation of this Council does not affect the jurisdictional authority or Tribal sovereignty of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.

Applications are available at the County Commissioners Office in the Courthouse Annex or online at: http://www.co.missoula.mt.us/mcbcc/forms.htm. Submissions may be faxed to (406) 721-4043. Deadline for Applications is Friday, February 26, 2010.

For more information, please contact the Office of the County Commissioners at (406) 258-4877, or the Office of Rural Initiatives at (406) 258-3432.
