Tester to honor Montana unit departing for Afghanistan
Senator Jon Tester will be in Missoula Sunday to honor dozens of Montana National Guard members as they leave the state for duty in Afghanistan.
Tester will attend the send-off of the 230th Engineering Detachment from Missoula International Airport.
The 230th Engineering Detachment is commanded by Captain Candace Griffith, the first female Montana National Guard officer to lead a unit of its size into a combat zone.
The Guard members will train for approximately three weeks at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii before they depart for approximately one year of duty in Afghanistan.
