Roman Zylawy will be announcing that he is a candidate for County Commissioner for the East End, and Marcia Verley Boris will be announcing that she is a candidate for County Attorney in the 2010 elections. The citizens of Alberton and Mineral County are invited to meet with Roman and Marcia on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Community Church in Alberton at 2:00 p.m. Cookies pastries and coffee will be provided. The "Walk For Awareness” to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month will start at 10 a.m. at the Alberton Community Center, October 24th. A free luncheon will follow the walk along with silent auctions, a raffle, educational information, and local resource info. All proceeds will be donated to the Montana Breast and Cervical Health Program. Due to a recent resignation on the Planning & Zoning Commission, the Missoula County Commissioners will appoint one new Citizen member to fill this unexpired term to December 31, 2010 (at which time they will be eligible for reappointment). This commission is called upon when necessary to decide on matters concerning Citizen Initiated Zoning Districts; applicants must live within a Citizen-Initiated Planning & Zoning District. One individual is sought to immediately fill an unexpired term on the Lolo Community Council until the Special District Election is held in 2010. The Lolo Community Council acts as a liaison between the citizens of Lolo and the BCC and provides info deemed useful, beneficial and helpful to the County Commissioners in making decisions which affect the Lolo community. The Mineral County Friends of the Library welcomes new members to help support the county library system. Formed in 2001, our raffles, bake sales, coffee rest stops, and chili “read and feeds” have raised hundreds of dollars to support the library’s limited budget. The Missoula County Park Board is accepting applications for fall 2009 matching grants. These funds are for improving county parks, common areas and other local recreation sites, and can be granted on a 1:1 matching basis in amounts usually up to $4,000 per fiscal year. If you are interested in improving a park in your area, please apply for funds! The deadline for fall applications is October 19, 2009. The Missoula County Park Board will consider all applications and recommend awards at their November 2009 meeting. Another chance to apply will be given in the spring of 2010.
