Montana Shakespeare In The Parks begins its landmark 35th season when they return to Superior on Thursday August 14, on the lawn behind the Superior High School. The play " Heartbreak House," will begin at 6 pm. Bring lawn chairs, a picnic supper, and plenty of friends and family to enjoy the evening. The nine-week tour that began in Bozeman will mount nearly 70 performances in 53 communities this summer. Montana Shakespeare In The Parks brings professional productions at no cost to the public to communities throughout Montana, northern Wyoming, eastern Idaho and North Dakota.

Mountain lion hunters must choose to apply by Aug. 29 for a special license drawing or purchase a general license by Aug. 31. Unsuccessful applicants for special licenses may not purchase a general license. The special license is valid in most of western Montana’s regions 1 and 2 during the winter season, Dec. 1 to April 14. The general license is valid in central and eastern Montana’s regions 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 and a few hunting districts in western Montana. Both licenses are valid during the fall season, Oct. 26 to Nov. 30. Apply for the special license drawing over the counter at any FWP Regional office by 5 p.m. on Aug. 29; online at fwp.mt.gov by 11:45 p.m. MDT, Aug. 31; or by mail to: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, License Section, PO Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620. Applications must be received by Aug. 29. Hunters are urged to check the mountain lion regulations.

Mineral Community Hospital Guild announces the Third Annual Purple Tea to honor cancer survivors. This event is scheduled to coincide with the start of the Relay for Life weekend. All community members are invited; cancer survivors and guests are especially welcome. Fancy refreshments will be provided. The festivities will include speakers and educational presentations. Winners of the Mineral County Republican Central Committee 50/50 drawings Aug. 1 and 2 may claim their prizes by calling Judy Mahon at 822-0555. Friday's winning number was 7679255. Superior Public Schools offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast costs $1.30, lunch costs $1.90 (K-6), and $2.00 (7-12). Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced-price meals. Reduced-price is $.30 for breakfast, $.40 for lunch. To apply for free or reduced-price meals, use a Free and Reduced-Price School Meals Application which will be sent home with your child the first day of school. Return the completed application to the school.

Join folks from the Great Burn Study Group for weekend trips into the Great Burn this summer, monitoring weeds, wildlife, trail conditions, signs, and more, collecting important information for management of this rugged backcountry area. The Montana legislature's Environmental Quality Council is seeking public comment by Aug. 22 on a draft report and a dozen draft bills related to climate change. EQC members seek comment on: Recycling; Promoting the use of raw materials from Montana in the production of manufactured items; Enhancing mass transit and ensuring adequate transportation planning; Providing more weatherization and energy-efficiency opportunities for low-income and rental housing; Expanding biomass opportunities; and Reviewing requirements that new state buildings exceed current building codes or standards.
