The public is invited to the 100th anniversary of the Savenac Nursery and the 13th Annual Passport in Time program on Friday July 18. Registration 9 to 11 a.m., program 11 to 1 p.m, potluck open to the public, 1 p.m. Meat and cake will be provided, please bring a dish. This year's PIT projects include restoration of the 1919 concrete bridge across Savenac Creek, a new roof on the bunkhouse and a variety of other maintenance and ground projects. This also marks the CCC's 75th and the Young Adult Conservation Corps' 30th anniversary. Anyone who was a part of the CCC’s or YACC is encouraged to attend and share stories, photos, and memorabilia. Author Carl W. Haywood will be signing copies of his book about David Thompson, "Sometimes Only Horses to Eat," at the Mineral County Library on Monday, July 21, at 3 p.m. He will be giving a 45-minute presentation about Thompson, in
the Saleesh House period, then will visit until 7 p.m., selling his book and signing copies. For more, call the Mineral County Library. Watch for the multicolored “hands” on T-shirts, which represent the Helping Hands of Alberton. Volunteers for the non-profit organization will be raising funds this Railroad Day by selling hot dogs and beverages from our brightly-colored hot dog stand. We will be across from “Trax” during the day and in the park during the evening. “Brother Mercy” with special guest Denise Ishler will perform live from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the back deck of the community center. Your donations to “Helping Hands” are greatly appreciated.
Join folks from the Great Burn Study Group for weekend trips into the Great Burn this summer, monitoring weeds, wildlife, trail conditions, signs, and more, collecting important information for management of this rugged backcountry area. The Evaro Community Center will host a public presentation on the plan to purchase 320,000 acres of Plum Creek Timber land on Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m. The purchase includes about 25,000 acres in the Mill Creek area southwest of Evaro. The presentation will be offered by The Nature Conservancy and the Trust for Public Land, which helped negotiate the purchase. Missoula County’s Rural Initiatives office anticipates that more presentations and workshops will be hosted in the coming weeks. Cabin Fever Quilters present their free quilt show “Stars Over Montana” Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Superior High School multipurpose room. The show features Katherine Raether of St. Regis as the featured quilter, an exhibit of quilts, a raffle quilt whose proceeds will provide scholarships for Mineral County high school graduates, a boutique of handmade items, a raffle basket, door prizes, two area quilt shop vendors, and People’s Choice voting. Enjoy the fair after attending the show.

The Fourth Annual Matthew Michael Palagi Athletic Memorial Scholarship Benefit Golf Scramble will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, at Trestle Creek Golf Course, St. Regis, starting at 10 a.m. Flat $45 per person signup fee includes free deli meal. Golf carts are available at course cost; hole and door prizes; mulligan drawing. Please sign up by Aug. 2. (If slots are still available, tournament day registration will be held at 8 a.m.) All participants must be on the course by 9 a.m. to confirm three-man teams. A homebuyer education class will be held Aug. 4, 5 and 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Human Resource Council Building, 316 N. Third St., Hamilton. The class is especially beneficial to first-time homebuyers with below-median incomes. Anyone who has not owned a home for three or more years is considered a first-time homebuyer and may be able to purchase a home for monthly payments comparable to what they are paying in rent. This class is required for some assistance programs. Register by calling 363-1444 ext. 5. $20.
