To the editor:
I adopted the code of fair campaign practices as a candidate for the Fire Board Election on May 6.
Now unsigned political flyers were published attacking my business as having been found in violation of fire code. Well, guess what? On March 14, 2007 I did have a violation of fire code with a burned out light bulb over the door (copies available). It was fixed.
I will not resort to misleading half-truths, without any context, designed for political gain.
The Fire Department does have jurisdiction over maintenance issues and should be helping everyone in Fire Prevention.
Building code issues are NOT in the department's area of expertise or in the Mission Statement.
I will always take issue with us being in areas we do not belong.
This political campaign is designed for the public to have a voice and everyone should VOTE MAY 6 and disregard misleading characterizations that are unfounded

To the editor:
In this campaign I have only presented my views and have said I want the public to decide based on those views.
Unfortunately anonymous flyers have misrepresented my views and instead of promoting other candidates' attributes or views, have tried to only present negatives about mine.
I did, in fact, as part of the school board, vote for presenting a bond issue to the voters who decided it was appropriate for passage of the bond. I am impacted by that passage as any property taxpayer in the district but as a member of the board saw the need for the building.
My resignation from the school board had to do with a conflict with the fire department and the conflict of interest of being on the school board while questioning some of the goings-on at the Frenchtown Rural Fire District.
I am opposed to impact fees because they ARE taxes.
I am for keeping our fire equipment and paid staff in the district when we are in high fire danger except for mutual aid for adjoining districts because this is what we have a fire department for, protecting our property.
When the Black Cat fire was reported, there were units and full-time staff in Seeley Lake (a "project" fire at the time). What if that had started at a point that the first impact of the fire was akin to the Thursday situation?
Not everyone will agree with me on these issues and I understand that, but I believe the people have to decide and your vote is the only true way to find out your views.
I have not talked of closing any stations, but have not seen a real need to build anymore at this time.
I believe all tax money should be spent with the most value in mind and grant money is not free money and still should be spent as efficiently as possible. Fiscal responsibility is very important when spending public money.
