Sheriff's Report for Mar. 13, 2008

Hot Springs woman arrested twice in two days and reports of horse neglect

by Mark Hebert

Sunday, February 24, 12:17 p.m. A 44-year-old Ronan man was arrested for disorderly conduct in Superior shortly after midnight. The inebriated man was lodging at a local motel, and when he was asked to pay his bill, he refused. The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office was called.

Sunday, 2:03 a.m. A 50-year-old St. Regis woman was arrested for DUI on Sunday morning after being pulled over for driving erratically in the St. Regis area. When the woman was pulled over, a sheriff’s deputy smelled alcohol on the woman’s breath and asked her to take a field sobriety test. She failed the test and then registered a BAC of 0.187, two times over the legal limit to drive.

Monday, February 25, 11:30 a.m. The sheriff’s office responded to a burglary call at Superior Junior High. Someone entered the school’s computer lab over the weekend, and although nothing appeared to be missing, an investigation is underway.

Monday, 2:51 p.m. The sheriff’s office received a call from an Alberton resident, reporting the possible neglect of some horses in the area. The sheriff’s office forwarded the report to a livestock investigator, and an investigation is underway.

Tuesday, February 26, 7:11 p.m. A 53-year-old Hot Springs woman was arrested in Superior after a sheriff’s deputy pulled her over because her car had a headlight that wasn’t working properly. The woman smelled of alcohol and was given a field sobriety test, which she failed. The woman refused to submit to a breath test and was then arrested for DUI, driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.

Wednesday, February 27, 12:34 p.m. A St. Regis resident called the sheriff’s office to report that a tabletop was stolen from her property. An investigation is underway.

Wednesday, 3:59 p.m. Less than 24 hours after being arrested for DUI (see Feb. 26 entry), a 53-year-old Hot Springs woman was again arrested for driving while intoxicated. The woman, driving a red Thunderbird, was pulled over and a sheriff’s deputy smelled marijuana on her breath. Because she had posted bond on Tuesday, she was placed on probation. Part of her probation stipulated that she submit to a urine analysis test, and when given the UA on Wednesday, she tested positive for THC. The woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated, driving while her license is suspended and for criminal contempt for violating her probation.

Friday, February 29, 1:55 p.m. The sheriff’s office received a call from a Quartz resident claiming that a dog in the neighborhood was chasing cars. An officer from the sheriff’s department attempted to talk with the dog’s owner, but could not locate him.

Friday, 6:38 p.m. The sheriff’s office responded to a fire and smoke call in Superior. Apparently, a dunce reporter from the Clark Fork Chronicle set his garbage can on fire after emptying ashes from a metal can into the container.

Monday, March 3, 8:34 a.m. The sheriff’s office received a call from the foster parents of youth in Superior, claiming that the biological mother of the children had called them and told them that she was going to come to town and take the children. The sheriff’s office circulated a photo of the woman among the faculty and staff of Superior Elementary, who were told to call the sheriff’s office immediately if they saw the woman. Monday, 9:31 a.m. A woman living in the St. Regis area called the sheriff’s office to report that her home had been broken into. When the officers arrived, the woman told them that some syringes had been moved and that a light had been left on. There were no signs of forced entry.

Monday, 4:41 p.m. An out-of-county theft call was placed to the sheriff’s office. The caller, a caregiver for medical marijuana, reported that their patient wouldn’t give back some medical equipment.

Tuesday, March 4, 12:27 p.m. The Montana Highway Patrol arrested a 32-year-old male from Arlee for DUI. No further information was available, since it was a MHP arrest. Saturday, March 8, 3:42 a.m. The sheriff’s office received a call from an innkeeper in Superior, reporting that one of the motel’s guests was outside and intoxicated. When the sheriff’s office arrived, they found the man standing next to his van, urinating on the pavement.

The man told the sheriff’s office that he had had “too much” to drink – falling down at one point in the interview — and he was told to go to his room and sleep it off. A little later the man was observed driving his van. He was pulled over and then arrested after failing a field sobriety test and giving a BAC of .137.
